At CARA, we believe lasting change happens when communities work together. Alongside our child protection and rescue-centre initiatives, we support community-based projects that strengthen families, improve living conditions, and promote opportunity for vulnerable children and their caregivers.
Located near Kenya's Rift Valley, we are privileged to work alongside our Maasai neighbours and other local communities. Through housing support, cultural exchange, volunteer engagement, and community partnerships, we strive to build relationships based on respect, dignity, and shared learning.
Our goal is not simply to provide assistance, but to work with communities to create sustainable improvements that help children and families thrive.
"When CARA met a local family, six people were sharing a single-room home that served as a kitchen, bedroom, and living area. Working with community partners, support was provided to improve the family's living conditions. The children gained a safer place to sleep and study, while the family enjoyed improved privacy and stability.

Through a housing support initiative, improvements were made that created a safer and healthier living environment. Above are examples of CARA's wider commitment to strengthening families and creating safer environments for children across the communities we serve. Cultural exchange activities are regularly incorporated into volunteer programmes to encourage mutual learning and community engagement.
Our neighbours, the Maasai people of Kenya's Rift Valley.
CGRC is located on the edge of the Rift Valley in Kenya. Our neighbours are the Maasai tribe and we have a great relationship with these people. The Masai always make all of our volunteers very welcome when we visit. Where resources allow, CARA supports vulnerable families by helping improve housing and living conditions. Improved housing provides families with additional living space and allows existing structures to be repurposed for cooking and other household activities, helping create safer and healthier living conditions.
During the annual trips, volunteers will help to paint and furnish these new houses in the community and join in the house opening celebrations - over 50 families have benefitted from this community initiative.
